Pilot Plant: Cleanroom And Chemical Kilo Labs
The advanced cleanroom and chemical kilo lab specialize in clinical- and pilot-scale manufacturing of specialty chemical materials and the fill/finish of excipient-grade products.
The Class 10 cleanroom and chemical kilo labs serve as manufacturing suites for specialty materials such as novel chromatography resins and excipient-grade products such as our J.T.Baker® cell lysis and viral inactivation solutions that require aseptic filling in closed operations.
These labs leverage key Avantor bioprocessing technologies to achieve the tight tolerances required during fluid handling and dispensing operations, including single-use assemblies, mixing systems, and Masterflex® pumps.
Key capabilities
Small Volume Manufacturing of Specialty Chemicals
As a smaller scale, agile manufacturing facility, the cleanroom and chemical kilo labs are well-suited for the production of specialty chemicals and excipient-grade products in 1–5 kg quantities and 5–10 L volumes for customers and to support product development.
The upstream and downstream teams regularly transfer early-stage products for scale-up of the manufacturing process and design the final product and packaging. As demand grows for new products, the manufacturing process can be transferred to a larger Avantor facility.
Aseptic processing and cleanroom operations
The cleanroom enables closed and aseptic operations during manufacturing and fill/finish processes. The lab is also equipped with single-use assemblies to minimize the risk of contamination and advanced peristaltic pumps to ensure accurate dispensing.
Cleanroom operations are essential to meet product quality and safety expectations.
Piloting New Bioprocessing Technologies
The cleanroom and chemical kilo lab provide a real-world manufacturing environment in which new products can be tested and optimized such as advanced fluid handling systems to achieve precise flow rates and pressure control.
Evaluating product improvements and innovations in the true manufacturing setting ensures they will provide important new benefits to customers and perform as expected in their bioprocessing operations.
